Good for jobs but the automakers need to remember that most apartment buildings have not and will not add the proper electric hook up for tenants. I'm not going to buy a house just so I can buy an electric car either.
Maybe they can figure out a way to get these cars to charge on a 110 outlet without blowing the circuit breaker.
The other option is our employers. Nike and Intel in Beaverton, Oregon provide EV charging stations for their employees although the Portland Oregonian reported only 1 charging station at Nike and Intel reports several for their employees.

I think the reason the EVs are not selling very well is that we all want more range. It might be a good car in Hawaii, but most of us drive or want to drive a car more than just 75 or so miles.

It figures that US production would be the result of subsidies!

Cars of the future, but may be a little ahead of it time. It a great commuter car, and I see a lot of them here in the Bay Area. But I don't think it going to be a big seller until its range (currently less than 100 miles) increases significantly.

Overall energy cycle must be considered. How do you generate the electricity for these cars? It is less efficient than just burning gas?

to classicwheeler: excellent question. also, don't forget the nasty and expensive process to make the batteries in the first place.

The problem with batteries and motors is that it requires the use of transition metals that are hard to find, such as rare earths.

Has anyone considered that while gas is not being used for these cars, that batteries are being used and will take more of them to run the cars and also have to be replace more frequently which is a use of the landfills taking these batteries in? Just wondering.
