We used to only buy name brands such as Shell, not anymore, we go for the cheapest. Runs just a good.

No, there are differences.
Plus the big brands that sell a lot of fuel always have fresh stuff in their tanks.
And some of these old run down stations may have dirt in their tanks, water, etc.
I usually try to keep it a name brand, its almost the same cost anyway.
$60 to fill up vs $60.15?

Some brands will make your car run better, but the difference is neglegible.

"Stopped at a Speedway and spoke to delivery person. Asked him which was better Speedway or the Marathon across the street that they also delivered to. I was told definately to go across the street to Marathon and pay the penny more. You make your own references."
Marathon uses STP fuel treatment products in its gasoline products. Using STP with 93 unleaded in my vehicles has increased fuel mileage and help engines perform better.

In my local area, Huntington, WV; Marathon gives me a 10% increase in my gas mileage and is worth the extra cent or two that it charges. The above referenced AAA spokesperson needs to clarify "there can be a slight difference in gas -- if a station adds engine cleaning additives to its standard recipe. The difference isnt likely not big enough to damage a car." Think of the money that you will save by buying the better gas mielage gasoline though.

Maybe I'm a sucker for the adds, but I've been sticking to Chevron or Shell and Costco--But now I'm going to start looking at how much ethonol is in the blend too

Was there someone who thought differently? As in, "You get what you pay for." I hope not. But that would explain how the stations charging 50 cents more than everyone else per gallon get any customers.
In the old days, there was a potential difference - water in the gasoline. Water in gas used to be a fairly common problem in certain (wet) parts of the country. However the US government requires all stations to use leak-proof tanks and have leak detection. That is why so many gas stations went out of business between 1990 and 2000.
I do NOT believe any station adds anything to gasoline anywhere. If they could get away with adding 100 gallons to the tank with something costing 10 to 50 cents a gallon, they would. But you can't add water or anything detrimental, so anything legal would cost too much. It ain't done.

In California, The Manufacture of All Gas is controlled by C.A.R.B. The California Air Resources Board. The only difference is the Additive added at the time of loading onto the Truck just prior to Delivery to the station.

I wonder if that is true in Ontario or not. Questionable. There are certain places around that we won't buy gas from because something always seems to be wrong with it. And I'm not talking about when their tanks are low (possible slug in bottom) or when tanker has just filled their tanks (slug stirred up from bottom). I'm talking ALL the time.

Gas quality may meet spec., but major brands add their special additives to make it that brand. The additives make the difference.

Sure Gas is Gas.
But doesn't the quality of it change depending on how much idiot Ethanol is mixed in.
Something to consider.

I don't mind driving cleaner fuel > > Do you mind burning more fuel? 0% ethanol give better mileage hence you burn less getting where you going.

If one station has ethanol and another does not, there is definately a difference in quality.

The additives do make a difference. In someone's comparision to buying groceries and a loaf of bread. There are lots of different breads out there with different textures, tastes, and ingredients. But they all make a sandwich.

All gas might have to meet federal requirements but there are different blends based on who the company is. I try to buy gas at one station that I like. If on a trip I will look for that station or I have a back up station.
